Capitol ID Card Bill Clears Senate Finance Committee On 4-1 Vote

Posted: Feb. 14, 2018

A bill that would allow Coloradans to obtain a background check and identification card to bypass security at the Colorado capitol complex won easy passage Tuesday in the Senate Finance Committee.

Committee members heard words of support for SB18-116 from lobbyists, including CLA founding members Tony Gagliardi and Larry Hudson, among others. They also heard the concerns of the Colorado State Patrol, which opposes the bill for safety concerns and which would prefer to explore the issue behind closed doors with the legislature's Executive Committee.

Sen. Lois Court was the only committee member to vote against the measure, citing what she called the inequity of allowing people with more financial resources to move ahead in line of people with fewer resources.

The bill moves next to the Senate Appropriates Committee.
